Programme Lead – Dignity at Work (Employee Safety and Inclusion)

Will is passionate about patient safety and staff well-being. With over 25 years of experience in the NHS, he has held operational and associate director roles. Throughout his tenure, he has navigated myriad challenges, assuming pivotal leadership roles across primary care trusts, strategic health authorities, and mental health trusts. His leadership has been instrumental in spearheading transformative projects, including mental health homicide inquiries, reducing restrictive practices, ligature management, and suicide prevention initiatives. Will's commitment and astute decision-making underscore his indomitable spirit and effectiveness.

Will possesses extensive governance acumen, refined through his involvement in corporate governance and management of both regional and local roles. His foray into the private sector broadened his professional network, while his ongoing secondment at the Royal United Hospital attests to his steadfast dedication to ongoing professional development.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Will served as a magistrate for 12 years and was the independent panel chair for his local Police and Crime Commissioner. He was the independent chair of the local authority equalities group during COVID-19, championing public health and safety initiatives. These roles underscore his deep-seated commitment to advancing social justice and community welfare.

Will is a WRES Expert (2023) and an experienced investigator in high-profile NHS and private sector cases involving HR, complaints, fact-finding, and criminal and civil litigation with successful outcomes in courts and tribunals, including appeals. He is passionate about health equity and addressing health inequalities and serves as a Visiting Fellow at the University of the West of England. Looking ahead, Will is an aspiring Liberal Democrat councillor in the upcoming May 2024 elections.
